Branded and commissioned work
The James and Anne Duderstadt Center is a collaboration of teams from multiple units, departments, and programs from across the University of Michigan. The Digital Media Commons (DMC) is a unit of the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies with direct reporting responsibility for the overall operations, stewardship, and technologies of the Duderstadt Center. Under the DMC umbrella is Ground Connections, containing the Fabrication Underground, Design Labs 1+2, and Groundworks. Ground Connections builds relationships with diverse partners to advance the innovative integration of DMC resources in curricular, co-curricular, and civic activities. I worked for Ground Connections from 2021 to 2024 as a Fellow.
Cricut Maker Tool Bits -- 2024
Design Lab 1 required signage for their Cricut Maker 3; what tool bits they have available for patrons, the bits' purpose, and material compatibility. The manager requested a visual representation that included descriptions from Cricut about each tool's use.
The tool bits were individually photographed, edited in Photoshop separately, and combined into this final composition with added shadow.
Extended Displays -- 2023
Groundworks had a new addition of six extended display stations, otherwise called laptop docking stations. New signage was needed however, there are other hanging signs (Images Reference 1 & 2) from a former student fellow already up. As requested Groundworks' Extended Displays Signage needed two key things and one change:
Replicate the style of the other hanging signs (Images Reference 1 & 2)
The iconography needed to be both universally recognized and within the style the previous designer created.
The film-like scratches were to be removed/not replicated in this signage.
Mostly Magnetic Media Exhibition -- 2023
A collaboration between Groundworks and the CCA Gallery was initially only on display until a certain date but became a permanent display in Ground Works.
"Gone but not forgotten, take a stroll through media history and be amazed at the variety and SIZE of the media that entertained your parents. What equipment did they play this on?!? These mostly obsolete video & audio pieces come from the basements and garages of our DMC staff… enjoy!
Following the initial exhibit in our CCA Gallery, the collection will move to Groundworks, our walk-in media lab on the first floor of the Duderstadt Center."
For this exhibit poster, I was given complete creative freedom, even departing from the department-branded font. The one requirement was that the poster needed to be 24 by 18 inches. I was provided an archive of photography to use and manipulate.
I wanted to make a square album cover esque visual, with the title and information under.
Photoshopped individual images
In Adobe Illustrator layering, columns and filters were added.
Collaborated with Groundworks Manager on final title and subtitle.
